DAL DHOKLI

This recipe is curated to provide numerous health benefits while keeping calories to a minimum. It features powerful, nutritious and simple ingredients.

Ingredients:

For Dhokli:

  • 1/4 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/4 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/4 tsp cumin seeds
  • Salt to taste
  • Water to knead
  • 1/2 tsp oil

 

 

 

 

For Dal:

  • 1/4 cup cooked toor dal (split pigeon peas)
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/4 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/4 tsp garam masala
  • 1/4 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tbsp chopped tomatoes
  • 1 tbsp chopped coriander leaves
  • 1/2 tsp lemon juice
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 tsp oil
  • Water as needed

Directions:

For Dhokli:

  1. Mix whole wheat / bajra flour, turmeric powder, red chili powder, cumin seeds, salt, and oil in a bowl.
  2. Knead into a firm dough using water. Roll the dough into a thin sheet and cut into diamond-shaped pieces.
  3. For Dal Heat 1/2 tsp oil in a pan, add mustard seeds and cumin seeds, and let them splutter. Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder, and chopped tomatoes.
  4. Cook until the tomatoes soften. 5.
  5. Add the cooked toor dal, water (to adjust consistency), and salt. Simmer for 5 minutes. 
  6. Add the dhokli pieces into the simmering dal and cook for 5-7 minutes until the dhokli is soft.
  7. Turn off the heat, squeeze in lemon juice, and garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
